Is Grazing Good for Wet Meadows? Vegetation Changes Caused by White-Backed Cattle

چکیده
Wetland ecosystems are highly productive and valued for numerous reasons including wildlife habitat, biodiversity, water quantity quality, human uses. Grazing livestock on wet grasslands can sometimes be controversial due the humidity of but other hand, it plays an important role in grassland preservation. Therefore, we evaluated impact Polish white-backed cattle grazing changes vegetation (13 phytosociological relevés taken years 2016–2019) meadows as well forage quality based species composition. Biodiversity was estimated richness, Shannon–Wiener diversity evenness indices, Rényi profiles. The peatland featured mostly high-sedge communities Magnocaricion Calthion alliances. biodiversity indices demonstrated significant rising trends. Extensive resulted decreased cover dominant rush meadows, e.g., common reed, acute, tufted sedge. gaps that had emerged thanks to reduced were filled by meadow plants, which led increased biodiversity. During four grazing, obtained satisfactory weight gains, particularly 2019, indicates suitable provide sufficient feed cattle.

Bird Communities and Vegetation on Swedish Wet Meadows Importance of Management Regimes and Landscape Composition
Gustafson, T., 2006. Bird communities and vegetation on Swedish wet meadows – importance of management regimes and landscape composition. Doctor's dissertation. Wet meadows in Sweden currently depend on management by grazing to maintain habitats for various breeding and migrating birds. However, due to ceased cattle farming management by mowing could be an option for restoration and conservatio...
متن کاملGrazed wet meadows are sink habitats for the southern dunlin (Calidris alpina schinzii) due to nest trampling by cattle
The effect of habitat management is commonly evaluated by measuring population growth, which does not distinguish changes in reproductive success from changes in survival or the effects of immigration or emigration. Management has rarely been evaluated considering complete life cycle of the target organisms, including also possible negative impacts from management. We evaluated the effectivenes...
متن کاملDetermining the Effects of Cattle Grazing Treatments on Yosemite Toads (Anaxyrus [=Bufo] canorus) in Montane Meadows
Amphibians are experiencing a precipitous global decline, and population stability on public lands with multiple uses is a key concern for managers. In the Sierra Nevada Mountains (California, USA), managers have specifically identified livestock grazing as an activity that may negatively affect Yosemite toads due to the potential overlap of grazing with toad habitat. Grazing exclusion from Yos...

Permanent monitoring sites in Flat Top Hill Conservation Area in Central Otago were resurveyed in the spring of 1997, following a four-year interval in which rabbit numbers had been very low, and stock absent. All study sites showed considerable vegetation change between 1993 and 1997. The most significant changes in the vegetation were large increases in overall vascular species richness and d...

This paper examines spatial variations in exposure to toxic air pollution from industrial facilities in urban areas of the United States, using geographic microdata from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Risk‐Screening Environmental Indicators project. We find that average exposure in an urban area is positively correlated with the extent of racial ...
